E, no final, tudo parece fazer sentido. É essa a Arte de Gilka.

Often, it is by following some people's social networks that I get to know others. One of these days, while watching a story by Nnan Real, I was impressed by the art of my new guest.
Gilka is the alter ego of Valter Gil M.. This artist from Lisbon finds in his Art a space for reflection to express feelings, emotions and opinions about everyday life in society and beyond.
He draws his influences from Latin, Asian and other extinct cultures, from myths, the supernatural and music, because he cannot create in silence. And, in the end, everything seems to make sense. That is Gilka's Art.
Valter Gil M.
Gilka aka Valter Gil M. was born in Lisbon in 1979, and his interest in art began at a very young age.
He attended the Art and Graphic Communication Course at the António Arroio School, where he began creating his first works with the intention of sharing them.
During his time at the studio of artist Gisela Santi, in addition to learning new techniques, he learned the true concept of being a Visual Artist.
In his works, characterized by strong expression and symbolism, Gilka combines several styles to communicate and achieve the best way to be understood.
Self-taught from the ground up, he has exhibited throughout Portugal in biennials, competitions and individual and collective exhibitions.
After a break, Gilka is now trying to return to what he loves most, which is creating.
What is the meaning of your artistic name?
It comes from my name Gil and the word Ka, which means Soul. Gilka is an alter ego, my representative in the world of creation.
Honestly, I have never cared about the name that is signed, but rather about the Art that is created.
What material do you prefer to work with?
I like materials that speed up the creative process, such as alcohol pens and markers, acrylic, diluted oil, felt-tip pens, pencils, correctors, etc.
Who are the artists that influence your art?
I'm eclectic, so I love many artists, but the ones who influenced me the most were: H. R. Giger, José Guadalupe Posada and Van Gogh.
When will the next exhibition be?
ArtBeat Art Fair
Cordoaria Nacional, Lisbon
27-29 June 2025
What are your future plans/projects?
Honestly, considering the time is stopped and being unknown to many, for now it is about spreading the word, making contacts and participating in competitions. Then we will see.
