Back to School Jam

No término de 2025, recordo mais um momento marcante deste projeto pessoal.

Organizada por mim e pelo John Viana, a ideia para a Back to School Jam nasceu em Borba, à saída da Pig Parade (do grande Funky).

John estava com vontade de voltar a pintar na parede da Escola Secundária João de Barros (local da Sapal de Corroios Jam, o evento que marcou as primeiras 100 entrevistas do blog).

Contactada a Junta de Freguesia, foi-nos dito que não era possível pintar na escola, mas que poderia ser analisada uma intervenção numa outra parede.

Enquanto aguardávamos pelo local, fomos pensando nos participantes e no tema da jam. Inicialmente, pensámos em apresentar os motivos locais em polaroides ou latas de graffiti.

Finalmente, tivemos a aprovação para uma parede localizada num espaço pedonal que havia sido reabilitado recentemente.

Dada a proximidade de uma escola primária, aos temas iniciais juntámos as crianças.

A jam decorreu no fim de semana de 13 e 14 de setembro.

Para além do John Viana (e do seu pequeno ajudante), estiveram presentes Gobs, Tempero Diabético e Ces.

No domingo, Harte também se juntou à lista dos convidados.

Como é costume, foram dois dias de festa constante e o resultado foi um hall of fame que veio engrandecer o espaço público, estabelecendo uma forte ligação com a vizinhança e com a escola próximas.

At the end of 2025, I recall another significant moment in this personal project.

Organized by myself and John Viana, the idea for the Back to School Jam was born in Borba, after the Pig Parade (by the great Funky).

John wanted to paint again on the wall of the João de Barros Secondary School (location of the Sapal de Corroios Jam, the event that marked the blog's first 100 interviews).

Contacting the Parish Council, we were told that an intervention at the school was not possible, but that an intervention on another wall could be considered.

While we waited for the location, we thought about the participants and the theme of the jam. Initially, we thought about presenting local motifs in Polaroids or graffiti cans.

Finally, we received approval for a wall located in a pedestrian area that had recently been renovated. Given the proximity of a primary school, we added children to the initial themes.

The jam took place on the weekend of September 13th and 14th.

Besides John Viana (and his little helper), Gobs, Tempero Diabético and Ces were present.

On Sunday, Harte also joined the list of guests.

As usual, it was two days of constant celebration, and the result was a hall of fame that enhanced the public space, establishing a strong connection with the neighborhood and the nearby school.
