O mundo de João Prim aka DISH gira à volta da Arte, a qual considera uma ferramenta para o desenvolvimento pessoal de cada um.
Filho de um guitarrista e namorado de uma pintora, em criança queria ser ator. É professor de Artes Visuais e Expressão Plástica do 1º ciclo, tem uma ligação forte à Dedicated (que sente como uma família), gosta de deixar a sua marca nos abandonados e na street (na qual pinta com regularidade) e já criou e colaborou em diversos projetos sócio-culturais e artísticos.
Em nome próprio, já lançou 4 exposições. Na mais recente online (Dishparate), o artista / writer endereça um forte ataque à ostentação, fundindo logos de marcas renomeadas com personagens do imaginário dos desenhos animados.
Aquando do convite, apresentou logo a sua disponibilidade para a criação de uma peça, por forma a engrandecer a entrevista. Face às dificuldades provocadas pela Covid, optou pela elaboração de uma de estúdio, a qual muito apreciei.

Qual o significado do teu tag?
O meu tag inicialmente, por volta de 2006/2007, era “DIZ”. Mudei o Z pelo S mas, mesmo assim, era um tag pequeno. Então, inseri o H, pois não alterava a fonética da palavra e, mais tarde, percebi que podia usá-la como prefixo de outras palavras e utilizá-las para criar exposições (Indishpensavel, Dishturbios, Dishpar, Dishparate).
Tens formação em arte?
Desde miúdo, sempre estive ligado a artes. O meu pai é guitarrista e eu queria ser ator, tão bom como o Vasco Santana.
Nunca estive muito ligado ao desenho técnico. Foi a descoberta do graffiti que me levou a percorrer um caminho e descobrir outras ramificações.
Leciono Artes Visuais num externato, acreditando num ensino potenciador, como o graffiti fez comigo.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Eu lembro-me de ter uns 9/10 anos e de todos os domingos, quando não tinha jogos, ir para o quintal, em Carnaxide, jogar basquete com a minha família e dos campos estarem todos pintados.
Passei a prestar atenção aos tags, aos traços, à forma de colorir e comecei a desenhar no papel.
Mais tarde, aprendi a saber quem pintava e a distinguir os artistas. Comecei a colecionar fotos do Ayer (que pintava em Carnaxide), do Odeith, do Obey e do Raps. Depois, percebi o que eram Crews e comecei a identificá-las, como os GVS, SKTR, LGN.
Entretanto, entrei para uma escola com secundária onde havia writers e crews (JDK, GRL) e foi aí que tentei dar os meus primeiros passos.
Como era a cena no graffiti quando começaste?
Eu provenho da altura de transição, do aparecimento da internet, revistas e concursos de graffiti públicos, em que o Estado já tentava combater (com murais autorizados) o que para eles é considerado Vandalismo. Algo que nunca irá acontecer, pelo Game que é.
Sinceramente, acho que, na altura em que comecei, um writer era um writer e vestia essa camisola e o seu carácter era moldado pela cultura que representava.
Quais são as tuas crews?
2795 que é de onde eu venho e vou sempre representar, orgulhosamente, a zona que me vê crescer e desenvolver o que mais gosto de fazer. E entrei, recentemente, para os FMK (Eko, Rote e Ayer).
Eu sempre me senti um lobo solitário. Para fazer parte de um crew, deves-te rever nele. E estas pessoas dão-me, sem dúvida, uma knowledge e aprendizagem incrível, que me fazem dedicar-me e competir todos os dias comigo próprio.
Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
Linda-a-velha hardcore e, sem dúvida, onde tiver uma boa vibe e bons momentos de pinturas. Como diz Slow J, “Casa é o mundo inteiro...”.
Como é o teu processo criativo e onde vais buscar as tuas inspirações?
O meu processo criativo passa, simplesmente, por debitar experiências de vida e pelo meu consumo excessivo de hip hop Tuga. Quase sempre, os meus graffs ou ilustrações partem de dicas de músicas que ligam a minha vivência.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Na rua, irei pintar sempre sem sketch. Acredito na vibe e no trabalho praticado, diariamente, no estúdio.
Wall of fame, Street bombing ou Train bombing?
Para as características que mais aprecio do graff, sem dúvida Wall of Fame.
Qual é a tua lata preferida? Montana Black ou Nbq.
Preferes pintar sozinho ou em grupo?
Acho que o tempo sozinho é bom para te aperfeiçoares e criares uma linguagem mas as jams e as produções são a minha praia e, para isso, é necessário coletivo. Evoluis sozinho mas dois é sempre maior que um.
Com quem gostas de pintar?
Com o meu irmão de outra mãe Knock, Trauma, Guizo, Rest, Beus,Eko, Ayer, Rote e todos os que tenham uma boa vibe, que curtam uma boa battle e que procuram estar sempre em evolução!
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas? Basicamente, Hip hop Tuga ou Luso, Sam the kid, Regula, Monsta, slowJ, Papillon, Nga, Dillaz, Dong, Emicida, Sacik bro, Xeg, Achero.
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal?
Acho que cada um está na sua procura. No entanto, os valores que me fizeram apaixonar pelo graffiti, foram a união e o crescimento, pelo que gostaria de ver mais veículos de união e deixar o ego para a parede.
Qual é o teu top 3 de writers portugueses? Não tenho um top 3. São inúmeras as pessoas que me inspiram e de quem eu gosto do trabalho. Acho que os Thunders, tanto em coletivo como individualmente, são incríveis e o Odeith e o Vile são de outro planeta. Mas, a ter que nomear três, Eko, Ayer, Atsok.
E de writers estrangeiros?
Qual é o teu melhor trabalho?
Não tenho melhor trabalho. Tenho vários em que a experiência e o momento valem para a vida, como pintar a prisão de Tires, pintar um autocarro e realizar um videoclip, pintar ao lado de pessoas que me fazem elevar, potenciar crianças e jovens, colorir a vida de pessoas no qual o mundo é resumido ao cinzento... Esses são os melhores trabalhos!
Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?
Nesta fase em que está tudo parado mas confiante num futuro normalizado, continuar com a mesma dedicação e foco, continuar a preparar as exposições, pintar todos os dias e ser a melhor versão de mim próprio.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
Estava em Amsterdão com o Knock e fomos até à Montana comprar latas, para mandar um Fame. Já tínhamos dado o toque antes de sair de cá e, quando lá chegámos, tínhamos uma jam com writers de lá. Mandaram a localização e disseram que já iam ter connosco.
Apanhámos um barco, chegámos a um spot que parecia um portal para outra dimensão, um cenário completamente fabril cheio de Graffitis com artistas pelas ruas a pintarem telas, paredes e a demonstrar a sua arte.
Chegados à parede que iríamos pintar, tínhamos mais ou menos três metros entre a parede e umas baias gigantes revestidas por lonas coloridas aliciantes para mandar uns tags, mas a minha consciência fez com que eu pensasse que ponto número um não estava no meu país, número dois era muito novo, ponto número três não sabia as consequências das nossas ações. Começámos sim a pintar o que realmente importava e estávamos ali para fazer, ainda à espera dos outros writers.
Quando eles chegam, começam a dar tags nas lonas todas até chegarem ao pé de nós. Assim que eles chegam e nos cumprimentam, aparece um carro de golfe cheio de seguranças e aquilo torna-se num faroeste. Eu comecei logo a falar português, meteram-me a mim e ao Knock de parte e foram só ao que pintou as lonas. Chamaram a polícia e vieram falar connosco a dizer que as paredes eram permitidas, que gostavam de ver as paredes assim, mas não podíamos tocar nas lonas.
Seguiram viagem e nós acabámos a peça!

The world of João Prim aka DISH revolves around Art, which he considers a tool for the personal development of each one.
Son of a guitarist and boyfriend of a painter, as a child he wanted to be an actor. He's a teacher of Visual Arts and Plastic Expression of the 1st cycle, has a strong connection to Dedicated (who feels like family), likes to leave his mark on the abandoned buildings and on the street (in which he paints regularly) and has created and collaborated in several socio-cultural and artistic projects.
In his own name, he has already launched 4 exhibitions. In the most recent online (Dishparate), the artist / writer addresses a strong attack on ostentation, fusing logos of renowned brands with characters from the cartoon imagery.
When invited, he immediately showed his availability for the creation of a piece, in order to enhance the interview. In view of the difficulties caused by Covid, he opted for the elaboration of a studio paint, which I very much appreciated.

What is the meaning of your tag?
My tag initially, around 2006/2007, was “DIZ”. I changed Z by S but it was still a small tag. So, I inserted the H, because it didn't change the word's phonetics and, later, I realized that I could use it as a prefix for other words and use them to create exhibitions (Indishpensavel, Dishturbios, Dishpar, Dishparate).
Do you have art training?
Since I was a kid, I have always been connected to the arts. My father is a guitar player and I wanted to be an actor, as good as Vasco Santana.
I've never been very attached to technical drawing. It was the discovery of graffiti that led me to take a path and discover other ramifications.
I teach Visual Arts at a boarding school, believing in an empowering teaching, as graffiti did with me.
When did your interest in graffiti start and what were your influences at the time?
I remember being about 9/10 years old and every Sunday, when there were no games, going out to the yard, in Carnaxide, playing basketball with my family and the fields being all painted.
I started paying attention to the tags, the strokes, the way to color and started drawing on paper.
I learned to know who painted and to distinguish artists. I started collecting pictures of Ayer (who painted in Carnaxide), Odeith, Obey and Raps. Then, I realized what Crews were and started to identify them, like the GVS, SKTR, LGN.
Later, I entered a high school with writers and crews (JDK, GRL) and that's when I tried to take my first steps.
What was the graffiti scene like when you started?
I come from the time of transition, the appearance of the internet, magazines and public graffiti contests, in which the State was already trying to combat (with authorized murals) what for them is considered Vandalism. Something that will never happen, for the Game that is.
Honestly, I think that, at the time I started, a writer was a writer and he wore that shirt and his character was shaped by the culture he represented.
What are your crews?
2795 which is where I come from and I will always proudly represent the area that sees me growing and developing what I like to do the most. And I recently joined FMK (Eko, Rote and Ayer).
I always felt like a lone wolf. To be part of a crew, you must see yourself in it. And these people undoubtedly give me incredible knowledge and learning, which make me dedicate myself and compete every day with myself.
What are your favorite spots / cities?
Linda-a-Velha hardcore and, without a doubt, where you have a good vibe and good moments of paintings. As Slow J says, "Home is the whole world ...".
Wall of fame, Street bombing or Train bombing?
For the characteristics that I most appreciate graff, without a doubt Wall of Fame.
How is your creative process and where do you get your inspiration from?
My creative process involves simply debiting life experiences and my excessive consumption of hip hop Tuga. Almost always, my graffs or illustrations come from music tips that connect my experience.
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
On the street, I will always paint without a sketch. I believe in the vibe and the work practiced, daily, in the studio.
What is your favorite can?
Montana Black or Nbq.
What is your top 3 of Portuguese writers?
I don't have a top 3. There are countless people who inspire me and who I like the work with. I think the Thunders, both collectively and individually, are incredible and Odeith and Vile are from another planet. But, having to name three, Eko, Ayer, Atsok.
And foreign writers?
Do you prefer to paint alone or in a group?
I think that time alone is good to perfect yourself and create a language but jams and productions are my thing and, for that, it is necessary to have a collective. You evolve alone, but two is always greater than one.
Who do you like to paint with?
With my brother from another mother Knock, Trauma, Rattle, Rest, Beus, Eko, Ayer, Rote and all those who have a good vibe, who enjoy a good battle and who are always looking to evolve!
What do you play in your playlist when you paint?
Basically, Hip hop Tuga or Luso, Sam the kid, Regula, Monsta, slowJ, Papillon, Nga, Dillaz, Dong, Emicida, Sacik bro, Xeg, Achero.
How do you describe the current landscape of graffiti in Portugal?
I think everyone is looking for you. However, the values that made me fall in love with graffiti, were union and growth, so I would like to see more vehicles of union and leave the ego to the wall.
What is your best job?
I have no better job. I have several in which the experience and the moment are valid for life, such as painting Tires prison, painting a bus and making a video clip, painting alongside people who make me stand up, empowering children and young people, coloring the lives of people in the which the world is summed up in gray ... Those are the best jobs!
What are your future plans / projects?
At this stage when everything is at a standstill but confident in a normalized future, continue with the same dedication and focus, continue to prepare the exhibitions, paint every day and be the best version of myself.
Do you have a story you want to share?
I was in Amsterdam with Knock and we went to Montana to buy cans, to send a Fame. We had already given the touch before leaving here and, when we got there, we had a jam with writers from there. They sent the location and said they were coming to us.
We took a boat, we arrived at a spot that looked like a portal to another dimension, a completely industrial scenario full of Graffitis with artists on the streets painting screens, walls and demonstrating their art.
When we reached the wall we were going to paint, we had about three meters between the wall and giant bays lined with attractive colored canvas to send some tags, but my conscience made me think that point number one was not in my country, number two was very young, point number three did not know the consequences of our actions. We started to paint what really mattered and we were there to do it, still waiting for the other writers.
When they arrive, they start tagging all the tarps until they reach us. As soon as they arrive and greet us, a golf cart appears full of security guards and it becomes a wild west. I started to speak Portuguese right away, they put me and Knock aside and went just to paint the canvases. They called the police and came to talk to us saying that the walls were allowed, that they liked to see the walls like that, but we couldn't touch the canvases.
They continued on their journey and we finished the play!
